Arrange a return journey

The route through Smit

Meghalaya Tourism describes Smit as the gateway village and the last drive as about 15 minutes. This is indicative, not a live traffic estimate. Use current navigation and local road advice.

What to carry

Bring a light layer, rain protection, drinking water, comfortable shoes and some cash. Confirm fees and stall availability on the day.

The classic route, via Smit.

Drive via Smit to reach the canyon. Allow 1-1.5 hours each way as a planning buffer, not a live ETA; your pickup point, traffic, rain and fog can make the journey longer.

Taxi & connections

Taxis or day tours can be arranged from Shillong. A private return taxi is the simplest option. We recommend confirming it before departure through your accommodation or a local operator; advance booking is advice, not an entry requirement. Do not rely on finding a taxi or app cab at the viewpoint for your return.
